Weathering storms
Some storms come unexpectedly and with force, seemingly out of nowhere. Some might have displayed warning signs you didn’t see.
It doesn’t really matter, the storm is there now. And you need to do something. Namely - shelter in place.
You wanted to change jobs, everything was set to go and now there is a (family) emergency? You started your workout journey successfully and now that nasty flu has hit out of nowhere?
Don’t beat yourself up, things happen all the time. Engage “emergency procedure”: recover from the flu - take care of the family emergency, and postpone the next steps as much as necessary. Your journey will continue afterwards.
In this case, I was doing a solo hike for several days in Torres del Paine, originally intended as the Circuit, and the storm hit on day one. So I went back to the last Rifugio, secured a place for the night, changed all reservations and the itinerary, and continued a day later. I also looked for hiking companions for security reasons, because the storm was blowing something fierce for several days.
It happens. And it was a fantastic journey.
